executive board 2020-2021

Emma Easton

President

Hello! I’m Emma and I am going into my fourth and final year of Laurier majoring in music. I have an absolute love for travelling, having been to 14 countries, and cannot wait to see what the rest of the world has in store! I rushed Alpha Omega in the fall semester of my first year and it is the best decision I have ever made. This year I have the honour and privilege of being Alpha Omega’s President. Alpha Omega has provided me with a safe space to be myself and allowed me to gain leadership opportunities within the sisterhood. I have made lifelong friends in many of my fellow sisters as they allow me to grow and encourage me to try new things. I am so excited for this year to be able to work alongside my sisters and to allow Alpha Omega to be the best it can be.

Alexa Alexander

Vice President

I’m currently in my fourth year of the Kinesiology program with a minor in Psychology here at Laurier. Choosing Laurier and rushing Alpha Omega were some of the best decisions I’ve ever made! Alpha Omega has given me a sense of belonging and purpose on campus. It is a great way to meet unique girls, give back to the community, and creates great leadership opportunities! I have been blessed to be given the opportunity to serve as Vice President during my final active year and I am so excited to see what’s in store for our future as a sisterhood!

Sarah Stockford

Recruitment Chair

I am a fourth year Christian Studies and Global Citizenship student with a minor in Religion in Culture. I spend my summers working at a summer camp and love all things Disney. I joined Alpha Omega in my first year and it is the best decision I have made. The sisterhood has encouraged me in many ways and allowed me to step out of my comfort zone. Through Alpha Omega I stepped into leadership opportunities and realized what I am passionate about. I hope to bring that passion into the role of Recruitment Chair. Rushing Alpha Omega was an exciting experience and I cannot wait to facilitate this time and encourage people to become a part of sometime so much bigger than themselves. I can’t wait to bring new and fun ideas to the position and work with our sisters to create events that are exciting to be a part of. The sorority has changed my life in so many ways and I hope to bring that to someone looking to join a supportive group of strong women. I am excited to meet all who are thinking about joining and cannot wait for this new and exciting year!

Sonia Berman

Additionally, I am on the Laurier Women’s Field Hockey team playing both outdoor in the fall and indoor in the winter semester. I have a love for travelling and learning about different cultures, having visited over 20 countries and gone travelling for a period of 9 months. Other activities I enjoy include canoe camping, reading, swimming and hanging out with friends. Having rushed Alpha Omega during the first year, first semester, this will be my third year as a part of the organization. Alpha Omega has provided me with the opportunity to get involved with philanthropies in the Waterloo community as well as meet a wonderful and supportive group of women. As Pledge Educator, I have the privilege to teach and mentor incoming pledges, providing a fun and nurturing environment. Joining Alpha Omega has been one of the best decisions I made coming into post-secondary, and I cannot wait to share this experience with future members!

Chelsea Bradley

Philanthropy Chair

I am in my fifth and final year of my undergrad, pursuing a Bachelors double major in Biology and Psychology with a minor in Criminology. I rushed Alpha Omega in the fall of my third year and I have loved it ever since! I enjoy spending my free time hiking and I have an unhealthy obsession with all kinds of dogs. I fell in love with our philanthropies the first night of my rush week so I am blessed with the opportunity to be Alpha Omega’s philanthropy chair for the 2020-2021 school year. As this position holder, I will be in charge of organizing and running our philanthrotropic events. I hope to inspire and create excitement within my sisterhood and the community for our philanthropy events. I am so excited to work with my fellow sisters and create change with the work we do and make an impact on our community. I cannot wait to see what this year has in store!

Sam Maasland

 External Social Chair

I am a third year English major, with a focus on a concentration in creative writing. I rushed Alpha Omega in the fall of my first year, and it has been one of the best experiences in my life, as it’s given me sisters who I can always rely on, as well as opportunities that have allowed me to grow as a person. I’m an outgoing individual, who loves getting to know new people. Getting the opportunity to be our external social chair this year is really exciting for me, as I get to plan a variety of socials with different greek life organizations. I have met some of my closest friends through socials and I’ve made incredible memories, and I hope to give other girls the same experience that I’ve had this upcoming year.

Serena Yakuse-Duffy

Internal Social Chair

I am a third year BA Psychology student with a minor in Spanish. I rushed Alpha Omega in my fall term of first year and it was one of the best choices I’ve made. Through Alpha Omega I have met some truly amazing people that I am lucky to have in my life! As Internal Social Chair it is my job to plan all sisterhood socials and summer/winter retreats. For the 2020/2021 school year I am looking forward to planning fun and interactive socials for the sisterhood. When I’m not doing stuff with the sorority you can catch me traveling with friends or family, going to the beach which I absolutely love, binge watching some Netflix shows until crazy hours in the day, and reading any book by Sarah J. Maas! I’m looking forward to working with an amazing Executive Team and having a great year with the sorority!

Micah Mcleish

Secretary

I am a fourth year Philosophy student here at Laurier and rushed Alpha Omega during the winter semester of my first year. Being apart of Alpha Omega has had such a huge impact on my university experience and has made my time at Laurier so much more worthwhile. I have made countless memories and friendships that I could have never imagined. As secretary, I am excited to further bond with sisters, try new things, and make more memories!

Hayley Brennan

Ritual Chair

I am a fourth year film student and have a minor in English and Communications. I rushed Alpha Omega my first semester of my first year, and have loved my sorority and everything Greek Life ever since. Being in Greek Life has challenged me to step out of my comfort zone, and allowed me to meet so many amazing and new people. I don’t know how I would’ve survived Laurier without my Greek Life family by my side. As the incoming Ritual Chair I hope to create rituals that allow active sisters to bond, and potential new sisters to feel welcome. I am so excited for this upcoming year, and all the fun memories to come!

Kenzie Bidwell

Publications Chair

I am currently a third year Communication Studies major with a minor in anthropology. I rushed Alpha Omega in the Fall of my second year and haven’t regretted a thing! It has definitely been one of the best decisions I have ever made and I am so glad to have created these lifelong bonds with my now, sisters.  As publications chair, it is my job to keep both active and alumnae sisters up to date on everything going on in the sorority. I’m also the one in charge of running all of our social pages and essentially acting as the publicist for Alpha Omega as a whole. I am very excited for my role within the sorority and I am looking forward to this upcoming year.

Marisa Vilayhong

Treasurer

I am in my third year of Psychology and Neuroscience and working towards my minor in Biology at Laurier. Being a part of Laurier has given me amazing and different opportunities to be a part of. Some opportunities include working in lots of labs and research, as well as being a part of different clubs and organizations here on campus. I love to be adventurous and try different and new things, especially out of my comfort zone. Rushing in Alpha Omega was one of the amazing and adventurous opportunities that I am grateful to be a part of, as the sorority has given me many new memories and friendships that I will forever cherish. I am super excited to be chosen for the role of treasurer and can't wait to see what amazing things are in store for this year!

Malak Sharif

Standards Chair

Hi! My name is Malak and I’m in my third year of BBA. During my time at Laurier I have been on various clubs including WILL and LACC. I joined AO during the first semester of my second year! Joining AO last year was one of the best decisions I could have made because I was introduced to some of my best friends and have been able to make so many memories with my girls! I was able to meet people who I may have otherwise never met and I’ve been able to create a family here at Laurier. AO has also given me the opportunity to help those in the Waterloo community through our philanthropies, as well as even helping support charities which aide those abroad. AO has changed and shaped who I am in so many ways and I can’t wait to be able to bring my ideas to Alpha Omega. I look forward to supporting my sisters throughout the 2020-2021 school year and I am very excited to meet everyone who is thinking about joining AO!

Sarah Tyler

Alumnae Advisor

I am a graduate of Laurier's Communication Studies program and I have completed Seneca's post-grad in Public Relations - Corporate Communications. Thankfully AΩ isn't just four years, it's for life! I am super excited to be returning for my sixth year as a member of the Executive Board. In this role, I get the opportunity to provide guidance to the executives and coordinate the Executive Training Retreat. As both part of the Alpha Omega Alumnae Association (AOAA) and the Active Executive Board, I act as a link between the active and alumnae members. Alpha Omega has consistently allowed me to grow and understand who I am through activities that encourage me to talk to inspiring people and try new things. The best part is the close bond you develop with so many wonderful sisters while making a positive impact in the community. Although I’m working full-time as the Marketing Coordinator for FreshSpoke Inc., I cannot wait for more fun AΩ memories this year too!
